Why café style suits a front room

Café style shutters cover the bottom part of the window and leave the top open. People walking past cannot see in at eye level, and daylight still pours through the glass above. They work well in front rooms, kitchens, dining rooms and bays.

They suit the sash windows of a period home, and the clean lines look right in a modern room too. We make each one to measure, so we can set the height to suit your window, your privacy and how you use the room.

  • Privacy at eye level

Passers-by cannot see in at eye level, and the room stays bright and open.

  • Daylight from the top

The upper glass stays clear, so the sky and the daylight come straight in.

  • Less to buy

A café shutter covers part of the window, so it uses less material than full height.

Questions about café style shutters

Ask us anything else at your free design visit, or call us on 08707 545 300, open 7 days, 9am to 6pm.

What are café style shutters?

Shutters that cover the lower part of a window and leave the top section open. They give you privacy from the street and let in as much daylight as possible.

Can I choose the height?

Yes. We make café shutters to measure, so we can set the height to suit your privacy, the shape of the window and how you use the room. We will talk it through at your design visit.

Do they work on sash windows?

Yes. Café style is one of the most popular choices for sash windows. The shutter covers the lower sash and keeps the character of an older home.

Can you fit them in a bay?

Yes. We make a café shutter for each window in the bay, so you get privacy all the way round and the top of every window stays clear.

Are they cheaper than full height shutters?

In most cases, yes. A café shutter covers only part of the window, so it uses less material and costs less than a full height shutter on the same window.

Can I have them in a bathroom?

Yes. For a bathroom we would make them in our Hollywood range. Its ABS is highly resistant to water and strong enough not to warp in the steam. You keep your privacy and still get the light.

Can I have curtains as well?

Yes. Many people pair café shutters with curtains. The curtains soften the room, and you can draw them at night to cover the top of the window as well.
