Why fit a shutter to a round window

A round window is hard to dress. A blind or curtain squares it off, and the shape you liked is gone. A round shutter follows the circle, so the window keeps its shape, and you can tilt the louvres for light and privacy.

Round shutters suit bedrooms, bathrooms, attic rooms and children's rooms. Ken once made porthole shutters for a narrowboat, worked round the owner's existing port hole liners, and made them so they could be taken out. For a bathroom we would make yours in Hollywood, which is highly resistant to water.

  • Keeps the circle

The shutter follows the round frame, so the window keeps the shape you chose.

  • Light and privacy

Tilt the louvres to let daylight in, or close them so nobody can see in.

  • Boats as well as homes

Ken has made removable porthole shutters to work with the existing liners on a narrowboat.

What are round window shutters?

Shutters made for circular, porthole or round windows. They follow the curve of the frame and still give you privacy, control of the light and an extra layer at the glass.

Can you fit a shutter to a round window?

Yes. We measure the circle at your free design visit and make the shutter to its exact size, so it sits snug in the frame and keeps the shape of the window.

Do you make porthole shutters for boats?

Yes. Ken made porthole shutters for a narrowboat, working round the owner's existing port hole liners and fitting in with their build schedule. The shutters can be taken right out when needed.

Can I have one in a bathroom?

Yes. For a bathroom or wet room we make round shutters in our Hollywood range. It is made of ABS, which is highly resistant to water and built to resist warping, denting and chipping.

Do round shutters let the light in?

Yes. Tilt the louvres to let in as much light as you want, cut glare, or close them for privacy at night. You keep the round window as the feature of the room.

Which ranges can I choose?

Round shutters are made in Georgia, Boston, Montana and Hollywood. Seattle does not make shaped windows. Montana is premium hardwood and comes in wood stains as well as paint colours.

How do I keep them clean?

Dust them now and then and wipe them over with a soft cloth. A Hollywood shutter in a bathroom wipes clean of soap and steam marks with a damp cloth.
